On 31 January 2026, the 13th Budapest Savate Open was held at its traditional end-of-January date, continuing a long-standing tradition of opening the international Savate (French boxing) competition calendar each year.
The Budapest Savate Open has consistently been one of the first major international events of the season, bringing together athletes, clubs, and officials from across Europe and beyond.
This year once again saw record participation, with more than 270 entries registered. Despite the peak of the influenza season, 260 fighters from 12 countries and 37 clubs took part on competition day, demonstrating the strong commitment of the international Savate community and the growing importance of the Budapest Savate Open in the global competition calendar.
A particularly encouraging development was the high number of youth participants, with well over half of the competitors coming from children, cadet, and junior categories. This strong youth participation highlights the continuous development of Savate at grassroots level and confirms that a new generation of athletes is actively emerging and gaining valuable international competition experience.
The 2026 edition also featured an increased number of Combat bouts, reflecting the growing interest. More and more fighters are choosing to compete in Combat divisions, which added intensity and excitement to the event and showcased the technical and physical evolution of the discipline.
The Budapest Savate Open 2026 once again confirmed its status as a key international Savate event, combining high-level competition, strong youth participation, and growing international interest in both Assaut and Combat disciplines. The event continues to play an important role in strengthening international cooperation and promoting Savate worldwide.
