The World Youth Championship (ages 15, 16 and 17 years) and the World Cup for in Savate Assaut took place from 23-26 July in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The championships were organised by the Uzbekistan Savate Federation, who again excelled in their organisational abilities. In an air-conditioned gymnasium, sheltered from the extreme outdoor heat (up to 42°C), the fights took place across three arenas, with a particularly high level of competition.

The concept of Savate Assaut is to touch without being touched, making it a safe and fun discipline for young competitors. Overall, the event was a great success, with 240 participants from 3 continents and 16 countries. A huge thank you to the Uzbekistan Savate Federation and the city of Tashkent for their warm welcome, their flawless organization, and especially for the superb opening ceremony, which was full of colour and emotion, honouring this country with its rich and extraordinary culture. It was a powerful moment, a symbol of unity, respect, and brotherhood between nations, which the young participants will not forget.

There was a very lively audience who supported the athletes energetically and loudly for the three days of competition. The World Cup finals took place on Saturday morning, with the World Championship finals in the afternoon. The 15 World Championship titles were spread across 7 countries, with the highly experienced French team taking 7 titles and Uzbekistan taking 3. The winners were awarded beautiful medals, along with the titles.

More than 120 athletes took part in three days of competition in the World Cup. The gold medals were shared amongst 6 of the 8 participating teams, with Uzbekistan receiving an impressive trophy for the most successful team.

We are grateful to Miguel Bordera for the development of our new inscription and competition management system, which gave coaches clear information about the timetabling for their athletes and enabled live sharing of results. Thank you to all who made this such a great event – the athletes, coaches, officials, competitions managers, volunteers and, of course, Mr Chori Mirzaev (President, Uzbekistan Savate) and Mr Shukhrat Khodjaev (General Secretary) and their enthusiastic team.
