The World Martial Arts Masterships was the "international martial arts mega event" of 2019. It took place in Chungju City, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Republic of Korea, from 30th August to 6th September. With government approval as an international sports event, the gyms and medal ceremonies were excellent. The athletes were accommodated in good quality hotels, with food and transport provided. The Opening Ceremony on 30th August included a parade of athletes, the lighting of the Games torch, sport displays (including Savate), fireworks and K-pop.


Twenty martial arts and combat sports took part in the Masterships including 8 GAISF-recognised sports, such as Savate. The Savate competition took place on 5th & 6th September, with athletes from 16 countries participating. Nine Savate categories were contested.

Congratulations to all the athletes. We thank especially the Korean Savate Federation for their work in preparing the Savate event, as well as all athletes and officials who participated.

After the competition, the Savate delegation joined the Closing Ceremony of the Games. The Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do Province, president of the WMC, Mr Si-Jong Lee honoured Savate by inviting the president of FISav, Dr Julie Gabriel, to give an address on behalf of the athletes and officials who had participated in the Games.
