A Savate competition in assaut was held in Massa Carrara, Italy, on the 3th of November 2012. The President of Italy’s Savate federation, Alfredo Lallo, organized for Savate to take a part in a big martial arts happening which was held in Fiere di Carrara on 1st to 4th November 2012.
Savateurs from Italy, France, Slovenia, Hungary and Finland took part in the Savate Assaut tournament. The Italians came to the tournament with big and strong teams from several different clubs around Italy. Frank May from Nice came also with a big team of mostly young French savateurs. Slovenia, Hungary and Finland each had 3-5 fighters. All together a good number of athletes found their way to the province of Massa on the western coast of Italy.
The Savate tournament was held on Saturday and about 60 assaut fights were fought during the day. That meant about 8 hours of non-stop fighting. The level of the fights was good. Especially in the finals, Savate Assaut was presented to the public as dynamic light contact fighting. The medals in the tournament were nicely distributed between all the participating countries.

The bustle and the amount of people in the Fiere di Carrara during the tournament came as a surprise to many of the savateurs. Savate competitions are not usually held in big happenings and it took some time for the coaches and athletes to get used to the atmosphere. In the end, it was a good chance for everybody to learn how to handle such situations and enjoy the support of the crowd.
