From 19th to 28th August, the Serbian Savate Federation held a summer sport camp in Karatas, near Kladovo, close to the river Danube. Over the 10 days, about 90 athletes and coaches took part in the camp.

Karatas is about 300 km from Belgrade, with the route passing through spectacular scenery along the banks of the Danube.

Three training sessions were held each day. On the second day, the Serbian Republic Institute of Sport held health and fitness examinations for 50 athletes. Savate training was run by national coach Miodrag Rakic, with Miroslav Odzic and Slobodan Popov. Colour glove gradings were also held, with many young athletes showing great commitment to their training and excellent technique.

FISav president Julie Gabriel, with Morgan Alexander (Cambridge Academy), introduced Canne de Combat to the sport camp, with a five day seminar. They were so impressed by the enthusiasm of the athletes that they gave their own cannes to the group to allow them to continue to practice.

The facilities at the camp were very good, including several sports halls and training areas, a swimming pool and excellent food. If you are interested in taking part next year, contact Miodrag Rakic for more information.
