The Federation Internationale de Savate was honoured by the visit of Julia Govinden, CEO of United Through Sports to the World Youth Championship in Podcetrtek, Slovenia. The championships took place at Terme Olimia, which has a good gym, within 5 minutes walk of the accommodation, and access to indoor and outdoor pools. Julia was able to experience the event and understand the concept of Savate Assaut which is to touch without being touched, making it a safe and fun discipline for young competitors.
She took the time to speak with athletes (ages 13 - 7 years), coaches and officials to find out about their experiences in Savate and at the Championships. Julia also joined a meeting of members of the Comite Directeur and other national federation representatives, where she thanked the president, Dr Julie Gabriel, and head of arbitrage, Maja Odzic, for their contributions to the United Through Sport Festivals since they began in 2018. Maja was delighted to receive a UTS medal for her work in judging UTS online competitions. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between FISav and UTS to continue collaboration in the coming years. Our young athletes have been very successful in the UTS online competitions since they began in 2020. We hope to have more successes in the years to come.
