Athletes are role models to the wider public, and particularly to many young people. They are the ambassadors of sport who show us how sport can help us develop and achieve in our lives. As such, they have responsibility to protect the integrity of their sport and help to ensure that all athletes PLAY TRUE.
Providing your whereabouts is about protecting your right to enjoy clean sport. Whereabouts information gives the Anti-Doping Organization (ADO) the ability to locate athletes with no notice, which is vital to testing and identifying athletes who choose to cheat themselves by doping.
If you are identified in a Registered Testing Pool (RTP), you must provide certain information about your whereabouts, including:
- home address
- training schedule & venues
- regular activities, such as school, college or work
- for each day, a specified 60 minute time window where you can be sought for testing
If you don't keep this information up-to-date, you may have a whereabouts failure declared against you. Missing a test by not being in the specified location during the 60 minute time window could be declared a missed test.
Any combination of 3 whereabouts failures and/or missed tests may result in a sanction. For more information, download the WADA leaflet : Athletes Whereabout - At a Glance. WADA have also produced a video to show how to use ADAMS to upload and update your whereabouts. You can access the Youtube video here.
We strongly suggest that all athletes, coaches, parents, medical professionals and others who play a role in supporting athletes should sign up to the ADEL global platform that provides free education and learning opportunities about all aspects of clean sport and anti-doping. From school sport level to the Olympic Games, ADEL has education programs for athletes of all levels to help them play their part in keeping sport clean.
