RULES DEFINE SPORTS

Our technical rules are specific to our sport and without them our sport would not be the same.
In Savate, we allow touches with the shoe and the glove. We don’t allow grappling or knee stikes.

MAINTAINING EXCITEMENT IN SPORT:
Rules ensure that, all other things being equal, competitors have a fair chance of winning. If we always knew who would win, there would be no excitement in our sport.
So, for example, in Savate, we divide athletes according to weight and age categories. We don’t match a 15 year old weighing 48kg to fight an adult weighing 70kg in a championship.

FAIRNESS:
All rules (and the fact that they are monitored and reinforced) are designed to prevent any participant from taking an unfair advantage over another. This includes ANTI-DOPING RULES!

PERSONAL INTEGRITY:
Cheating is disrespectful towards yourself and towards others: When you break the rules, you break the agreement that you have with your opponent that you are playing the same game.
A victory obtained by cheating is not a true victory: Maybe you can walk away with the medal and glory, but you will always wonder whether you could have achieved this by yourself, without artificial means.
You are entitled to expect your opponents to respect you: The fight against doping in sport is also meant to ensure that cheaters are not allowed to compete against clean athletes.

THE 4 RIGHTS TO PROTECT

  • Clean Athletes: protect their right to doping-free sport
  • Healthy and Safe Competition:protect athletes from being compelled to use unhealthy or dangerous methods in an attempt to be competitive
  • Spirit of Sport: protect the Spirit of Sport and ensure that sport remains a worthy human activity
  • Society: protect and inspire youth and future athletes by providing them with doping- free role models
