This fourth edition of the World Youth Championship in Savate Assaut was a great success: almost one hundred athletes, boys and girls, representing 12 countries participated. The championship is open to athletes over the age of 15 and under 18 years of age.
The city of Varadzinske Toplice, Croatia, hosted the championships. This small town is known as a thermal spa, offering a pleasant, green environment. The Croatian Federation made the delegations feel welcome - a comfortable hotel, with swimming pools, and unlimited buffet meals.
The weigh-in and control of the delegations took place at the hotel on Thursday evening, so the championship could start on Friday morning. Passionate athletes competed for gold and to be awarded the highly prized world champion title. The "pool" system set up by FISav allowed the athletes to have several assauts (there is no direct elimination).
In the view of the observers present, the technical level was very high. France showed supremacy by winning many titles. In the view of all observers, good technical preparation, but also the quality of coaching around a team that is united and solidarity allows the athletes to find the resources necessary to make the difference in uncertain moments.
The next World Youth Championship will be held in the summer of 2019.
